Sixteen-year-old Michael escapes the realities of his small-town New Zealand life by immersing himself within a world of maps. Yet his seemingly-happy isolation is broken by the erendipitous arrival of two young women into his life. Mary is twenty and blind from birth, on the verge of voyaging into the world on her own. Alison is Michael’s peer, whose grace betrays darker secrets. Suspended beside it all is Michael’s single mother Amelia, who cherishes her son, while simultaneously pushing him away.
Documentary
The Music Lesson tells the story of two groups of young people fromextraordinarily different backgrounds, as they use the power of music todiscover each other's worlds. Ten classically trained students from theBoston Youth Symphony Orchestra leave their sheet music behind to explorethe roots of music with students from Laikipia, Kenya whose tribal eldershave passed down the tradition of singing, dancing and playing music forcenturies. With beautiful scenery and heartfelt connections, The MusicLesson shows how these two groups transcend their differences through music.

Welcome to the 2009 Indie Spirit Film Festival
The Indie Spirit Film Festival is an annual event for filmmakers (professionals and students) and film lovers alike, with a superb program of feature films, shorts, docs, animation, and many other films from around the world.

Indie Spirit also has a sub-theme in which Native American films are showcased. A portion of the proceeds from the ticket sales for Native American films will be donated to social programs at reservations across North America.

Indie Spirit is about filmmakers establishing a relationship with audiences, distributors, and other filmmakers.

Currently, Colorado Springs is very fortunate to have two major film festivals (Rocky Mountain Woman's Film Festival and Pikes Peak Lavender Film Festival) which turn out hundreds to thousands of people annually; however, this will be Colorado Springs first film festival that welcomes filmmakers to submit films who are of any age, gender, or sexual orientation. It is truly a festival open to anyone who has a good quality film to present.
